Former “Fringe” and “The Affair” star Joshua Jackson has been cast as the lead in the new TV series adaptation of iconic 1987 adultery thriller “Fatal Attraction” for the Paramount+ service.

Jackson is set to co-lead the series alongside Lizzy Caplan in what’s dubbed a re-imagining of the story of a married businessman who engages in an affair with an attractive woman. When he tries to break it off, she becomes unstable and attempts to destroy his marriage and life.

Jackson and Caplan will take over the Michael Douglas and Glenn Close roles in the new take which reformats the story through a more contemporary lens – exploring our current views of marriage, gender roles, and mental illness which have all considerably changed in the 35 years since the first film.

The key third role of the wife, played by Anne Archer in the original, has not yet been announced. Alexandra Cunningham pens the script from a story she co-wrote with Kevin J. Hynes. Cunningham will also serve as showrunner for Amblin Television.
