Netflix and UK animation studio Aardman Animations have announced that a new “Wallace & Gromit” feature is on the way, along with offering a brief update on the long-awaited “Chicken Run” sequel.
The as-yet-untitled ‘Wallace’ film has Nick Park and Merlin Crossingham co-directing with Mark Burton on board to write and Claire Jennings producing.
The story begins with Gromit being concerned that Wallace has become too dependent on his inventions, a belief proven when Wallace develops a ‘smart gnome’, with a mind of its own.
The film is targeting a 2024 premiere on Netflix worldwide, except the UK where it will debut on the BBC before heading to Netflix.
The “Chicken Run” sequel has scored the title “Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget” and is well into production ahead of a release on Netflix in 2023. In the new film, the birds attempt to break into an impenetrable fortress.
Thandie Newton and Zachary Levi will voice Ginger and Rocky respectively, replacing Julia Sawalha and Mel Gibson. Bella Ramsey will voice their headstrong daughter.
Jane Horrocks, Imelda Staunton and Lynn Ferguson reprise their roles from the original, while Josie Sedgwick-Davies, David Bradley, Romesh Ranganathan, Daniel Mays and Nick Mohammed also join.
Sam Fell directs with Steve Pegram and Leyla Hobart producing.
