“God Country,” “Meebo & Me” Set Helmers

“Sweet Tooth” co-creator and showrunner Jim Mickle has been set to direct the film adaptation of Donny Cates’ comic “God Country” at Legendary and AfterShock Media.

Netflix has also boarded the fantasy feature which Mickle will co-write with Cates. Mary Parent, Ali Mendes, Lee Kramer and Jon Kramer are producing.

The story centers on Emmet Quinlan, an old widower afflicted by dementia and violent outbursts. When a tornado hits his West Texas town, Quinlan is rejuvenated thanks to an enchanted sword he finds in the wreckage, but now he must use it to protect his family and what remains of the town against terrifying otherworldly creatures.

The project will be the third Netflix-Legendary collaboration on the way alongside the “Enola Holmes” sequel and an adaptation of the “Gundam” anime franchise.

That’s not the only director news today. Scott Mosier (2018’s “The Grinch”) has closed a deal to direct the live-action comedic family adventure film “Meebo and Me” at Warner Bros. Pictures

Matt Lieberman (“Free Guy”) penned the movie about a divorced dad who goes through great lengths to get his son the hot new toy, an adorable robot.

When the other toy robots rise up against their owners, the dad and his defective robot set out to save his son and the world. Kenya Barris is producing.
