The PlayStation 5 comes with two removable white console cover plates, and so it was expected that this would lead to a booming business in custom covers.
However Sony has generally cracked down on those trying to customise the existing, and so far only, white cover plates whilst not offering any alternatives of their own. On the controller front at least, they have offered black and red alternatives.
Finally, over a year since the console’s launch, they’ve announced a range of five different colored console plates (for both disc and digital) and an additional three colored controllers with the range set to become available early next year.
When fully released the console will have six different color variations – the standard white along with black, red, purple, pink and blue.
In terms of release, the newly announced purple, pink and blue DualSense controllers will start launching globally in January, as will the black and red console cover plates. The pink, purple and blue cover plates will then launch later in the first half of 2022.
