In one of the more colorful pairings of product and film content, it seems KFC is doing a promotional tie-in with Pablo Larrain’s upcoming Princess Diana feature “Spencer” which stars Kristen Stewart.
SPOILER AHEAD FOR “SPENCER”
At the film’s end, Stewart’s Diana manages to escape the Royal Sandringham estate and takes the young William and Harry on an adventure to experience everyday life. The first stop on the way? They visit a KFC and chow down.
While the film itself involves various flights of fancy, the drive-in scene is actually based on a real story according to members of the royal household who tell the British press (via Newsweek) Diana and the boys would nip out for fast food – albeit McDonald’s, not KFC.
END SPOILERS
Nonetheless, KFC isn’t letting the marketing opportunity go to waste and is reportedly launching a limited-edition wool jumper inspired by Diana’s outfits in the movie and one in particular worn by Diana herself in the 80s.
That original jumper was bright red and covered in white sheep except for one that was black. The ‘sustainably sourced’ KFC jumper will do the same, but exchange sheep for chickens. 100% of proceeds will go to the KFC Foundation to support grassroots organisations empowering young people across the UK.
