Marvel Studios’ “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings” has surpassed “Black Widow” to become the highest-grossing film of not just 2021 but the entire pandemic at the domestic box office.
On Friday, the Simu Liu-led superhero tale pulled in $3.59 million to push its total U.S. gross to $186.7 million – passing the $183.5 million “Black Widow” earned since its release.
“Shang-Chi” is also set to top the domestic box office charts for the fourth weekend in a row with a further $12-14 million expected to be added to its haul.
It will beat the biggest newcomer, the film adaptation of the musical “Dear Evan Hansen,” which is expected to come in second with $7.3 million.
“Free Guy” will be third with $4 million, “Candyman” in fourth with $2.4 million, and “Cry Macho” in fifth with $2 million.
