Actress Jennifer Hudson, out doing promotion for the Aretha Franklin biopic “Respect,” recently discussed the potential legacy left behind by 2019’s legendary musical disaster “Cats”.

The Tom Hooper-directed film suffered catastrophic reviews, made headlines for digital glitches in the release and talk of a ‘Butthole Cut,’ and ultimately grossed just $75.5 million worldwide off a budget close to $100 million.

Talking with Total Film, she was asked about her thoughts on the film adaptation of the long-running Andrew Lloyd Webber stage production. Hudson offered an enthusiastic response, saying she loved that she was asked about it and then added:

“You know what? I think it was a bit overwhelming. It’s unfortunate that it was misunderstood. I think later down the line, people will see it differently. But it is something I am still very proud of and grateful to have been a part of. Yeah, I got to be Grizabella the Glamour Cat!”

Many of her fellow castmates have disparaged the film, as has Webber himself. If you haven’t seen it with your own eyes, “Cats” is currently streaming on Cinemax.
