Sean Penn has issued an ultimatum to studio NBCUniversal in regards to Starz’s Watergate-themed series “Gaslit”. According to Variety, Penn has said either the entire cast and crew receive COVID-19 vaccines or he will not return to work.
NBCUniversal imposed mandatory vaccines for ‘Zone A’ cast and crew members only (those in close proximity during production), though has provided an on-site vaccination clinic for those involved with the production.
Penn is now making it mandatory for all to undergo the vaccination and has offered to facilitate the effort, free of charge, through his nonprofit organization Community Organized Relief Effort.
The series itself focuses on the untold stories and forgotten characters of Watergate, from Nixon’s subordinates and the zealots aiding them to the tragic whistleblowers in the case.
Penn will play Attorney General John Mitchell, Nixon’s most trusted adviser and best friend, with Julia Roberts as his Arkansan socialite wife Martha Mitchell who helped sound the alarm on Nixon’s involvement in Watergate.
Robbie Pickering, Matt Ross, Sam Esmail and Chad Hamilton serve as executive producers.
