Filmmaker Zack Snyder’s The Stone Quarry Productions banner has signed a two-year first-look film deal with Netflix which will include a direct sequel to this year’s zombie heist film “Army of the Dead”.

The deal, the company’s first since exiting Warner Bros. Pictures in 2019, comes just weeks after Snyder set up his next movie, sci-fi adventure tale “Rebel Moon” which also falls under the new deal and will be released via Netflix.

Once Snyder finishes ‘Rebel’, which will be shot starting in early 2022 and is positioned as a potential franchise launcher itself, he’ll then direct the ‘Army’ sequel with Shay Hatten returning to write the script.

Netflix and Snyder’s company, which also includes producing partner Deborah Snyder and executive Wesley Coller, seem keen to keep working together which is no surprise as “Army of The Dead” was reportedly one of their biggest film launches to date.

In addition Snyder has already produced the prequel film “Army of Thieves” due later this year, and the animated “Army of The Dead: Lost Vegas” series is expected to premiere spring next year.

“Rebel Moon” meanwhile is based on the filmmaker’s old “Star Wars” pitch that is described as being heavily influenced by Akira Kurosawa’s “Seven Samurai”.

Snyder says his goal with the new deal is “to bring as much quality content as I can and do it on a giant scale. Big projects and big movies.”

The deal also effectively puts a nail in the coffin of any possible return of the Snyder-verse films over at Warners which essentially finished with the release of “Zack Snyder’s Justice League” which topped international home video sales charts.
