Ubisoft has revealed the newest game in its Tom Clancy universe – the free-to-play multiplayer first-person shooter title “Tom Clancy’s XDefiant”.
The game combines various 6v6 game modes with class-based abilities and is essentially an arena shooter that allows you to pick a character (known as a Defiant) from a specific faction.
Each of those factions are based on other Tom Clancy titles. Each faction has unique traits, abilities, and ultras (a special move), but aren’t locked to a specific weapon class. The four launch factions are:
Wolves – Based on “Ghost Recon” tank class
Echelon – Based on “Splinter Cell” support class
Outcasts – Based on “The Division” healer class
Cleaners – Based on “The Division” assault class
Ubisoft will add more factions “as the game evolves.” You can mix and match factions with any guns and attachments to suit your playstyle.
The game is a part of Ubisoft’s new business model which is moving away from large single-player games toward more free-to-play and games as service models. “XDefiant” joins the recently announced “The Division Heartlands” and “Assassin’s Creed Infinity”.
The XDefiant will kick off its beta on August 5th and will be only available for PC players from the United States and Canada. The game has no set release date and will be available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Series S, Xbox One, Amazon Luna, and Google Stadia.
