Sadly Angela Bassett’s CIA director character Erika Sloane, who first appeared in “Mission: Impossible – Fallout” a few years ago, will NOT be returning for the upcoming seventh film.

The actress had a small but crucial role in the sixth film, appearing in a handful of scenes that help set up the story. It was planned she would return to make a brief appearance again in the next film which once again is being directed by Christopher McQuarrie.

However this week, whilst out doing promotional rounds for “Gunpowder Milkshake,” the actress tells Collider that the pandemic disrupted plans for her return:

“I can’t tease anything about Mission: Impossible 7 except that, well, COVID took me out, literally. Or kept me out, how about that? So that’s all I know about that, but maybe I’ll be able to tease 8 when that comes along.”

The seventh ‘Mission’ has famously seen multiple stops and starts throughout production which has obviously been something of a scheduling nightmare. Still the film has managed to bring back some other key faces including the first film’s Henry Czerny reprising his role as Kittredge.

The next ‘Mission’ is set for a May 27th 2022 theatrical release.
