Amazon Prime has released a first promo photo of Jensen Ackles in his full Soldier Boy superhero costume for the third season of its darkly comic “The Boys” series.
Soldier Boy is essentially the show’s spin on Captain America. The original superhero created by Compound V in the 1940s, he fought in World War II and became the first super celebrity.
Series creator and showrunner Eric Kripke, who worked with Ackles throughout the first five seasons of “Supernatural” which Kripke created, says the character is “Homelander before Homelander – he’s got the ego and the ambition, it just comes across in a different way because he’s from a different time.”
The suit was designed by Laura Jean ‘L.J.’ Shannon and concept artist Greg Hopwood. Shannon says: “Our goal was to highlight a bygone era of overt masculinity and grit. With that pedigree, we dove headfirst into baking in an all-American quality grounded in a military soldier’s practicality with a heavy dose of old school cowboy swagger.”
The new season has yet to set a premiere date.
