Filmmaker James Gunn has revealed that his “The Suicide Squad” film is already finished.
Answering fan questions on Twitter, he says “we completely finished the movie this week, VFX and all”. It’s unusual to have a film completed this early (four months out from release), but Gunn says “I always planned to have it done by now”.
He also adds there was no reshoots – in fact no additional filming was required at all:
“What’s more unusual is that we didn’t do a single shot of pickups or any post-production shooting. Outside of Chris Nolan, that almost never happens, if at all, on tentpole superhero films.”
With the completion, some fans are understandably asking for a sped-up release, but that won’t happen says Gunn due to both marketing and the need to get people back to cinemas
“Yes, it comes out August 6th. There’s nothing left to do other than me looking at marketing & toys, doing publicity & waiting for the world to heal just a little more so a larger number of people can see it safely in theaters, where it is intended to be seen… I want as many people to be able to see it in theaters as possible.”
The comments come as a new Japanese poster for the film has gone online and can be seen below:
