Nikolaj Coster-Waldau (“Game of Thrones”) will star in, and executive produce a series adaptation of “The Second Home” based on Christina Clancy’s 2020 novel.

The Downstairs Girl
Bound Entertainment and Stacey Lee are teaming to develop a series adaptation of the coming-of-age novel “The Downstairs Girl”. Aminta Goyel will adapt the work as a half-hour series.

Set in 1890 Atlanta, the story follows a 17-year-old maid named Jo Kuan who lives with her guardian, Old Gin, in the basement of a wealthy family. At night she’s an advice columnist for a newspaper where she finds her voice and confronts questions and secrets about her identity. [Source: Variety]

The 39 Steps
Netflix has picked up the rights to the new limited series adaptation of John Buchan’s 1915 novel “The 39 Steps”, which has Benedict Cumberbatch attached to star and filming to begin next year in Europe.

Mark L. Smith will write the limited series, and Edward Berger will direct every episode of the story. This version updates the conspiracy thriller for contemporary times as an ordinary man becomes an unwitting pawn in a vast, global conspiracy to reset the world order. [Source: Netflix]

From Scratch
Eugenio Mastrandrea has been cast as the male lead opposite Zoe Saldana in Netflix’s limited series “From Scratch,” based on Tembi Locke’s memoir. Danielle Deadwyler, Keith David, Kellita Smith, Judith Scott, Lucia Sardo, Paride Benassai and Roberta Rigano have also joined.

The story follows an African American woman who falls in love with a Sicilian chef (Mastrandrea) while studying abroad in Florence and building a life with him in Los Angeles, merging two seemingly opposite cultures. [Source: Deadline]
