The team behind “The Comey Rule” limited series on Showtime are reuniting for another one – this time about the final days of the Trump administration, the violent insurrectionist attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6th, and the investigations in the aftermath.
The still united project hails from Billy Ray and Shane Salerno with Showtime ordering three scripts that aims to examine events from multiple points of view and both sides of the political aisle.
Trump himself is likely to be a character in the series, with one source suggesting Brendan Gleeson could reprise the role which he played in “The Comey Rule”.
Oscar-nominated screenwriter Ray (“Breach,” “Shattered Glass”) has reportedly been doing extensive research in recent months, conferring with many directly involved in the events. He’s already said to have completed the first script and intends to write and direct the entire series.
The project was said to have generated interest from outlets including HBO and Peacock but Showtime won for both familiarity and willingness to incur political backlash like it did with “Comey Rule”.
