“Agents of SHIELD” alum Chloe Bennet will play Blossom, “Liv and Maddie” star Dove Cameron is Bubbles and stage actress Yana Perrault has been set as Buttercup in the pilot for a live-action “Powerpuff Girls” series at The CW.
Based on the Cartoon Network series created by Craig McCracken, the new series sees the pint-sized superheroes now as disillusioned twentysomethings who resent having lost their childhood to crime-fighting.
Blossom has repressed trauma and now has anxiety order and has become reclusive, though she aims to become a leader again – this time on her own terms. Bubbles is still a sweetheart and fame seeker, but has toughness and wit as well. Buttercup is the most sensitive and has spent her adulthood trying to live an anonymous life.
Will they agree to reunite now that the world needs them more than ever? The pilot hails from writers and executive producers Heather Regnier and Diablo Cody, with Cody executive producing. Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and David Madden will also executive produce while Maggie Kiley will direct for Warner Bros. Television.
