“West Side Story” actress Rachel Zegler has scored a mysterious yet key role in the upcoming superhero sequel “Shazam: Fury of the Gods” at New Line and DC Films.
Zegler marks the second Colombian American to be cast in a DC superhero project following Sasha Calle’s casting as Supergirl in “The Flash” the other day.
The new film will continue the story of teenager Billy Baston (Asher Angel), who can transform into an adult male superhero (Zachary Levi) upon saying the magic word “Shazam”.
Zegler’s role is under wraps, but her casting marks the first serious movement on the project in a few months. The original film was released in 2019 and made $365 million at the box office. Much of the same team is returning for the sequel.
