Paul Theroux’s haunting tale “The Mosquito Coast” has already been adapted for the screen before with the famed 1986 Peter Weir-directed film starring Harrison Ford, Helen Mirren and River Phoenix about an idealist who uproots his family to Central America, only for them to lose everything.
Now, “Luther” creator Neil Cross completely reimagines the story with an on the run contemporary spy thriller element for the new Apple TV+ series adaptation starring the author’s nephew and “The Leftovers” star Justin Theroux along with Melissa George, Gabriel Bateman and Logan Polish.
Filmmaker Rupert Wyatt (“Rise of the Planet of the Apes”) directs the seven-episode limited series which is being described as a prequel of sorts to the original film. The show debuts on Apple TV+ on April 30th.
