Filmmaker Tim Burton has been set to direct and executive produce “Wednesday,” a new live-action series based around the character of the young Wednesday Addams from “The Addams Family” for Netflix.
Netflix has given the coming-of-age series an eight-episode order and is described as a sleuthing, supernaturally infused mystery charting Wednesday Addams’ years as a student at Nevermore Academy.
There she attempts to master her emerging psychic ability, thwart a monstrous killing spree that has terrorized the local town, and solve a supernatural mystery that embroiled her parents twenty-five years ago.
“Smallville” and “Into the Badlands” duo Al Gough and Miles Millar created the series and will serve as showrunners and executive producers. Andrew Mittman, Kevin Miserocchi, Gail Berman, Kayla Alpert and Jonathan Glickman also executive produce for MGM/UA Television.
Lisa Loring, Christina Ricci and Chloe Grace Moretz have all played the character in previous screen adaptations of “The Addams Family”.
