Green, Cassel Lead New “Musketeers”

A major European cast is being assembled for a new $73 million two-part adaptation of Alexandre Dumas’ classic novel “The Three Musketeers” at Pathe Constantin Film and DeAPlaneta.

The cast will be a mix of major talent and up-and-comers headlined by Francois Civil as D’Artagnan and Eva Green as Milady de Winter. The musketeers are Vincent Cassel as Athos, Pio Marmai as Porthos and Romain Duris as Aramis.

Also set are Vicky Krieps (“Phantom Thread”) as Queen Anne of Austria, Louis Garrel (“Little Women”) as King Louis XIII, Oliver Jackson-Cohen (“The Invisible Man,” “The Haunting of Hill House”) as the Duke of Buckingham, and Lyna Khoudri (“The French Dispatch”) as Constance Bonacieux.

The key role of the villain Cardinal Richelieu will be unveiled in the coming weeks. The adaptation will also introduce a new character named Hannibal who is based on the true story of Louis Anniaba – the first Black musketeer in French history.

Martin Bourboulon (“Eiffel”) will helm the two sprawling films titled “The Three Musketeers – D’Artagnan” and “The Three Musketeers – Milady”.

Matthieu Delaporte and Alexandre de la Patelliere (“Le Prenom”) will pen the scripts for both films which will shoot simultaneously at the end of this summer in France.
