Gina Carano, who played Cara Dune in the first two seasons of “The Mandalorian,” is no longer a part of the series.
In a statement obtained by io9, a Lucasfilm spokesperson said: “Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”
Variety reports that Carano garnered backlash on social media Wednesday after sharing several controversial posts on her Instagram story late Tuesday night – one comparing today’s divided political climate to Nazi Germany and inferring that being a Republican today is like being Jewish during the Holocaust.
Another photo on Carano’s story featured a person with several cloth masks covering their entire face and head and captioned with ‘Meanwhile in California’. Both posts were removed from by Wednesday afternoon.
The hashtag #FireGinaCarano began popping up requesting that Carano be dropped from the show. Carano has reportedly courted social media controversy before, previously mocking mask-wearing and sharing misinformation about voter fraud. She has also made light of people using their preferred pronouns on the platform.
