Two celebrated filmmakers have teamed with two famed brands to deliver short films that serve as both advertisements for the products, but also tributes to some classic filmmaking.
Celebrated “Call Me By Your Name” and “Suspiria” helmer Luca Guadagnino has done a short film for shoe, handbag and accessories brand Salvatore Ferragamo and their Spring 2021 collection.
Guadagnino is prepping a feature documentary on the label’s founder. In the meantime, we have this short set on the streets of Milan and which is heavily influenced by the work and style of Alfred Hitchcock.
Next comes celebrated “In the Mood for Love” and “Chungking Express” filmmaker Wong Kar-wai who has “curated” a six-minute short film/Lunar New Year commercial for car manufacturer Mercedes Benz.
The renowned Hong Kong director, who has been quiet for nearly a decade following 2021’s “The Grandmaster,” is preparing a new TV series and gets a Criterion box-set release next month. He is also said to have helmed this short which has many of his hallmarks.
