Quick News: Cronenberg, LAIKA, Mask, Judgment

David Cronenberg
Viggo Mortensen will re-team with his “A History of Violence” and “Eastern Promises” director David Cronenberg on a new project, a film Cronenberg wrote long ago but never made. Mortensen says he has now “refined it” and wants to shoot it this Summer.

Describing it, Mortensen remained vague saying: “he’s going maybe a little bit back to his origins… It’s very interesting. It’s almost like a strange film noir story. It’s disturbing and it’s good, I think.” [Source: GQ]

LAIKA
Celebrated animation studio LAIKA (“Kubo and the Two Strings,” “ParaNorman,” “Coraline”) is teaming with Bowie State University in Maryland to build the nation’s first stop-motion animation studio at a historically Black college and university.

The aim is to not only enhance BSU’s animation curriculum but also provide a career pathway for BSU students into the animation industry. They also hope to help diversify the animation industry, which has been a traditionally underrepresented sector for people of color, women, LGBTQ and other communities. [Source: Slashfilm]
