Kevin Hart Joins “Borderlands” Film

Kevin Hart will join Cate Blanchett in the cast of the Eli Roth-directed film adaptation of the “Borderlands” video game franchise at Lionsgate.

Launched in 2009, the role-playing first-person shooter game is set on the planet of Pandora, a rocky desert world which has been abandoned by a mega-corporation prior to the game’s events and is now in total anarchy.

The games follow a group of augmented mercenaries trying to hunt down an alien vault rumored to contain advanced technology. They find themselves battling the local wildlife and bandit population, and ultimately attempt to stop the head of a private corporate army from reaching the vault first.

Hart will play Roland, a skilled ex-soldier turned mercenary. Blanchett joined last year as Lilith, a siren and legendary thief equipped with magical skills.

Emmy-winning “Chernobyl” scribe Craig Mazin penned the screenplay. Hart recently wrapped production on the action-comedy “The Man From Toronto”.
