Peacemaker
Filmmaker James Gunn has confirmed that the John Cena-led HBO Max series “Peacemaker,” a spin-off of Gunn’s upcoming “The Suicide Squad” film, has begun production.
Gunn wrote Peacemaker’s entire eight-episode first season in just eight weeks after turning in his recent draft of Marvel’s “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3”. [Source: Instagram]
Powder Mage
Frequent “Stargate” producer Joseph Mallozzi has become attached to a one-hour drama TV series adaptation of writer/producer Brian McClellan’s fantasy novel trilogy “Powder Mage”.
Mallozzi will write the pilot episode with a view to show running a series that will take place in the Nine Nations, a fictional world in which magic collides with 18th century technology against the backdrop of political and social revolution as mythical gods return to battle for this world. The Forge (“Roadkill”) has secured TV adaptation rights to Barbara Taylor Bradford’s bestselling novels centered on the character of Emma Harte.
The deal covers eight novels which began with the famed 1979 book “A Woman Of Substance” which has sold more than 30 million copies and follows a servant girl who becomes a huge success as a tycoon, founding a business empire and a family dynasty. [Source: Deadline]
Hunting Ghislaine
Eleventh Hour Films has landed the screen rights to journalist John Sweeney’s chart-topping six-part true-crime podcast “Hunting Ghislaine” with plans to make a limited drama series based on the IP.
The podcast details the story of Maxwell, daughter of disgraced billionaire media tycoon Robert Maxwell and former partner of convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein. Maxwell denies six charges of enticing girls for sex with Epstein and perjury. [Source: Variety]
