“NBA Jam” Game Gets A Documentary

BestCrosses Studios has optioned Reyan Ali’s book “NBA Jam” with plans to produce a feature documentary about the history and success of the famed arcade video game.

Emmy-nominated Sean Menard (“The Carter Effect”) will develop and direct. Initially released more than 25 years ago, Midway Games’ team sporting title shattered records and earned more than $1 billion in quarters.

In the process, it became an iconic piece of pop culture, one of the most famed arcade games made alongside other early 90s arcade staples like “Street Fighter II,” “Mortal Kombat,” “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” “X-Men” and “The Simpsons Arcade Game”.

It also spawned several home adaptations, sequels and remakes with the title converted for the SNES and Sega Genesis/Mega Drive in 1994.
