Acclaimed “Giri/Haji” creator and “The Ritual” writer Joe Barton will take over as showrunner on the upcoming prequel spin-off series to Matt Reeves’ “The Batman”.
Barton steps into the role two months after “The Sopranos” and “Boardwalk” Empire veteran Terence Winter exited the show over creative differences. Reeves also executive produces.
The series will focus on the Gotham City police department and be set a year before the events of “The Batman” as it examines the corruption of this town. The project has been going by the working title “Gotham Central” and Warner Bros. TV is producing the series.
