“Spider-Man: Miles Morales” Gets Key Update

While there have been a lot of raves about the PlayStation 5 launch title “Spider-Man: Miles Morales,” there’s also been one key problem.

Namely the game launched with two graphical modes – fidelity and performance. With ‘Fidelity’ you got 4K visuals with ray tracing and 30 frames per second output. With ‘Performance’ you got 4K visuals without ray tracing and 60 frames per second output.

That led to a Sophie’s Choice of gaming – which do you sacrifice, the prettiness or the smoother frame rate. It’s a decision that will likely come up in many console games in the future.

Now Insomniac Games have updated it to include a third graphics mode, ‘Performance RT,’ one that seems like the best compromise. That mode will allow you to have both ray tracing and 60 frames per second output, but comes at the cost of “scene resolution, reflection quality and pedestrian density” according to the game.

Essentially it is dynamic resolution running between 1080p-1440p that’s then upscaled to 4K, while the ray tracing is a bit more basic than in the ‘fidelity’ mode. Either way it is now being touted as the ideal way to play the game.
