Redbox Launches Free AVOD Service

Redbox has launched ‘Redbox Free On Demand,’ an ad-supported streaming service promising hundreds of titles arriving weekly “curated to the tastes of Redbox audiences”.

What those tastes are can be seen in the initial title line-up which includes films like “Trespass,” “Lord of War,” “The Illusionist,” “Haywire” and “Maggie”. Redbox says the aim is to cover “fan favorites, cult classics and popular titles” and the service is now available on Roku, iOS, Android mobile and TVs and Vizio TVs. LG, Samsung, Xbox and Google Chromecast are among the platforms to be added soon.

The Chicago-based company is famed for its 41,000 disc-dispensing kiosks that have been in grocery and convenience stores since 2002. Redbox launched the Pluto TV-like ‘Free Live TV’ earlier this year.
