STXfilms appears to be entering the awards season this year with “The Last King of Scotland” and “Black Sea” helmer Kevin Macdonald’s new film “The Mauritanian” setting a February 19th 2021 release.
That puts it in the weeks before this year’s delayed ‘cutoff’ date which will now be at the end of February rather than December for films seeking awards consideration.
Tahar Rahim, Jodie Foster, Benedict Cumberbatch and Shailene Woodley star in the true story tale of Mohamedou Ould Slahi (Rahim), a man was held captive and tortured by the U.S. government in Guantanamo Bay detention camp for ten years without a charge or trial.
Losing faith, he finds hope in defense attorney Nancy Hollander (Foster) and her associate Teri Duncan (Woodley), who face countless legal obstacles in their pursuit of justice. M.B. Traven, Rory Haines and Sohrab Noshirvani penned the script.
