Filmmaker Jordan Peele (“Get Out,” “Us”) is set to produce a remake of Wes Craven’s 1991 horror satire “The People Under the Stairs” for Universal Pictures.
Brandon Adams, Everett McGill, Wendy Robie, A.J. Langer and Ving Rhames starred in the original which followed a young boy and two adult thieves who become trapped in a house, belonging to a strange Reagan-esque couple known as the Robesons.
The soon find a lot more than they bargained for waiting for them in the dungeon-like basement. Inspired partly by a true story, the film received solid reviews for its satire of gentrification, class warfare, and capitalism.
Win Rosenfeld will also produce. Peele is not expected to direct but he may have a hand in writing the script much like he did with Nia DaCosta’s upcoming “Candyman” revival.
