Warners Acquires Comic “Black” For Film

Studio 8 has announced that Warner Bros. Pictures has acquired “Black,” the feature adaptation of the indie comic mini-series from co-creators Kwanza Osajyefo and Tim Smith III who will produce.

Dubbed “X-Men” meets “The Wire,” the story is set in a United States where only African-Americans possess superpowers. The discovery is made when a Brooklyn teen named Kareem Jenkins is racially profiled and shot by police.

He lives to tell the tale and connects with others who share similar powers and uncovers a wide conspiracy to keep the knowledge of such superpowers from the world – especially from the black community. “Titans” producer Bryan Edward Hill wrote the script.

Jeff Robinov, Guy Danella, Matteo Pizzolo and John Graham will produce. A director is currently being sought.
