Neil Widener and Gavin James have been hired to pen the script for the live-action “Hot Wheels” feature, based on the Mattel toy car line, at Warner Bros. Pictures.
The pair won a ‘bake-off’ where the studio asked several scribes to come up with a treatment, they beat out several more established writers with their take apparently. Details are under wraps.
This marks the first major development for the title since Mattel and Warners hooked up in January 2019 to develop and produce the project.
Robbie Brenner is producing. The pair recently worked on the scripts for “San Andreas 2” and “Now You See Me 3” along with the “Romeo and Juliet” re-imagining titled “Verona” at Sony.
