Apple TV+ has picked up the limited series “Five Days at Memorial” which hails from Oscar winner John Ridley and Emmy winner Carlton Cuse.
The series is based on the acclaimed 2013 nonfiction book by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Sheri Fink and chronicles the first five days in a New Orleans hospital after Hurricane Katrina made landfall.
When the floodwaters rose, the power failed and the heat climbed, exhausted caregivers were forced to make life-and-death decisions that haunted them for years to come. Ultimately forty corpses were found in the hospital.
ABC Signature is producing the project on which Ridley and Cuse will serve as writers, executive producers and co-showrunners. The series is using the same source material originally earmarked by Ryan Murphy for a planned and now abandoned season of “American Crime Story”.
Ridley wrote the pilot script, but will split up the writing duties with Cuse on other episodes. Ridley will direct the pilot and a number of subsequent episodes.
