“Haunted Mansion” Hires “The Heat” Writer

Katie Dippold, who worked on “Parks and Recreation” before penning the Melissa McCarthy comedies “The Heat” and the “Ghostbusters” reboot, will pen a new live-action film take on the popular “Haunted Mansion” ride at Disneyland.

The ride sees theme park guests go inside a spooky and creepy manor that has a wide array of supernatural frights. It also features a bunch of iconic characters from psychic medium Madame Leota to the Hatbox Ghost.

Rideback, who produced the live-action “Aladdin” remake, is backing this live-action feature which follows on from a poorly performing Eddie Murphy-led and Rob Minkoff-directed feature in 2003. Guillermo del Toro was attached to write and produce another film adaptation but that project was seemingly abandoned.

Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich will produce.
