Acting veteran Jonathan Pryce (“Game of Thrones,” “Tomorrow Never Dies,” “The Two Popes”) is reportedly set to play Prince Philip in the final two seasons of Netflix’s “The Crown”.
The 73-year-old star will play opposite Imelda Staunton as Queen Elizabeth II and Lesley Manville as Princess Margaret for the fifth and sixth seasons set in the 1990s and 2000s. The seasons will deal with the breakdown of three of her children’s marriages, a fire at Windsor Castle, and the deaths of Princess Margaret, the Queen Mother and the Princess of Wales.
Pryce succeeds from Matt Smith in the role in the first two seasons and Tobias Menzies in the third and upcoming fourth season. Filming on the fifth and sixth seasons won’t begin until mid-2021 with the fifth season to premiere in 2022.
