Emmy nominee Mark Duplass has confirmed that the second season of Apple TV+ flagship series “The Morning Show” is being retooled in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Filming on the next season of the Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon-led series had been underway a few weeks when production was paused. Rather than simply resuming, Duplass says they’ve opted to rewrite the remaining episodes and possibly reshoot some scenes for the already finished ones. He tells Deadline:
“We shot two episodes before we shut down due to the pandemic, but I know that they’re also rewriting, which is crazy because that’s what happened in the first season. They had a whole set of scripts [then] and they rewrote everything to include the #MeToo movement, and now we’ve got other, larger, global phenomenon to deal with. I don’t know what they’re doing but I know they’re rewriting.”
There’s no word yet on when the second season will resume production. The first season launched with the Apple TV+ service late last year and while reviews were mixed/positive at first, reaction improved as the season unfolded and the show has gone onto score various nominations across awards shows.
