Following their success with “Succession,” HBO and producer Adam McKay are re-teaming for a new limited series adaptation of Brendan Borrell’s non-fiction novel “The First Shot”.
The book tells the story of the global race to develop a COVID-19 vaccine. It will explore the companies and individuals putting everything on the line to save lives, the science that it is based on, and the challenges playing out around politics, access, and safety.
Borrell has penned pieces about the coronavirus vaccine hunt for Wired, National Geographic and Science Magazine. McKay’s Hyperobject Industries will produce the currently untitled project and he will executive produce alongside Todd Schulman and Borrell.
The project is one of four new series McKay has in development for HBO – the three others being the drama series about the L.A. Lakers 1980s dynasty, a limited series about the Jeffrey Epstein scandal, and a TV series spin-off of Bong Joon Ho’s Oscar winner “Parasite”.
