“The Boys” Scores Early Third Season Renewal

Even though the second season of Amazon’s “The Boys” doesn’t kick off until September 4th, the streaming giant has already renewed the darkly comic show for a third season.

During the show’s panel for Comic-Con @ Home, showrunner Eric Kripke says the second season is “a lot more intense…we worked hard to make season 2 crazier but also more emotional and higher stakes. Everyone’s in a really tight spot.”

While the first season dealt with themes of celebrity, religion and corporate corruption, the second will deal with white nationalism and systemic racism in the second season. A first look clip from the new season was also shown and confirms the show has lost none of its edge with The Deep (Chace Crawford) trying to stop The Boys on a speedboat.

As for the third season, Kripke says: “The writers and I are hard at work in the (virtual) writer’s room and we’re sad to say, the world has given us way too much material. We hope to be shooting in early 2021, but that’s up to a microscopic virus.”

It has also been announced that the new season will boast a new aftershow with Aisha Tyler hosting it.
