Taraji P. Henson is developing an “Empire” spin-off series centered around her character Loretha ‘Cookie’ Lyon. In the works at FOX, the project is part of a two-year first-look deal which she has signed with 20th Century Fox Television.
All that’s known about the project is that it “follows what’s next for Cookie”. Henson will star and produce should it be ordered to pilot. Cookie was often considered the breakout character of the series and Henson’s work scored her three Emmy nominations and a Golden Globe.
“Empire” co-creator Danny Strong is writing the series alongside Stacy Littlejohn and Yolonda Lawrence, with Sanaa Hamri on board to direct. Lee Daniels, Brian Grazer and Samie Falvey will executive produce.
