HBO Renews “Perry Mason,” Sets “Third Day”

HBO has renewed its new Matthew Rhys-led “Perry Mason” drama series for a second season. The 1930s Los Angeles-set series debuted as HBO’s most-watched series premiere in nearly two years with the first episode now having been seen by eight million viewers.

That’s not all. HBO and Sky have also announced a unique release plan for their six-episode thriller series “The Third Day,” starring Jude Law, Naomie Harris, Katherine Waterston, Emily Watson and Paddy Considine. First the project will air the three episodes of its first half, dubbed ‘Summer’ and which was directed by Marc Munden.

Then the cast and crew will take part in a live stage show that will be airing on TV and online. Felix Barrett will helm this production which will be shot in one continuous take and will follow the cast and their characters during a real-time day in the life of the residents of the island.

After said stage show, the final three episodes of the series dubbed ‘Winter’ will air, those episodes helmed by Philippa Lowthorpe. The two batches of episodes and the live show are considered three stand-alone but interconnected stories. “The Third Day” launches on Monday September 14th.
