Ehrenreich Talks “Solo” Sequel Potential

Though the reaction towards “Solo: A Star Wars Story” seems to have already improved a bit with age, it won’t live down the cold fact that the film was a disappointment. From shockingly soft box-office and divided reviews to its messy and costly production troubles, the film has been written off by many.

A lot of that isn’t due to its stars though as Alden Ehrenreich as Han Solo and in particular Donald Glover as Lando Calrissian remain well received and there’s hope at least one might reprise the role in another film down the line. A full fledged “Solo” sequel though? Doubtful.

Ehrenreich currently stars in Peacock launch series “Brave New World” and was asked about the possibility by Esquire this week. He admits he’s not sure he’d even want to star in it: “It depends on what it is. It depends on how it’s done. It depends if it feels innate to the story.”

While he doesn’t confirm that a new appearance is planned, he does suggest some sort of talk is happening: “I don’t know anything about that. I mean, you know, I think our movie was kind of the last of the conventional-era ‘Star Wars’ movie release time. I’ve heard soooome stuff, but nothing concrete.”

In terms of a potential return, Disney+ is developing both an “Obi-Wan” TV series and a “Cassian Andor” series. Both shows are set in the era between the prequel and original trilogies, leaving the door open for Ehrenreich to potentially reprise his role there. More likely is a potential spin-off series involving other characters from the film.

Speaking of “Solo,” Lucasfilm’s creative art manager Phil Szostak shared a look at some of Vincent Jenkins’ original concept art for the film which reveals a showdown on top of the Millennium Falcon and the fight between Han, Beckett (Woody Harrelson), Qu’ira (Emilia Clarke), and Dryden Voss (Paul Bettany) in a sequence inspired by “True Lies”. The art was back from a time when Savareen was going to be depicted as a refinery hanging on the side of a cliff instead of the desolate sandy beach we saw in the film.
