Netflix Cancels “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”

Netflix announced Wednesday that its “The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina” will end when it returns later this year with ‘part four’ of its run.

The series premiered in October 2018 to much success both critically and with audiences. Its first part consisted of eleven episodes, the second part consisted of nine which aired in April 2019.

The show was renewed in late 2018 for “parts three and four” as part of a sixteen-episode order. The third part of eight episodes aired in January with the final remaining eight to air later this year.

Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa says in a statement: “Working on Chilling Adventures of Sabrina has been an incredible honor from day one. The cast, beginning with Kiernan as everyone’s favorite teen witch, has been an absolute joy. I am beyond thankful to the crew, writers, editors, assistants, and everyone for pouring so much love into this dark dream of a show. I’m also grateful to our partners at Netflix, Warner Bros., Berlanti Television and Archie Comics for letting us tell the story we wanted to tell, the way we wanted to tell it. We can’t wait for everyone to see part four.”

The decision to end the series comes after numerous other Aguirre-Sacasa shows have ended – his “Riverdale” spinoff K’aty Keene,” and his ABC pilot “The Brides” was passed over. He still has a lucrative overall deal with Warner Bros. TV and “Riverdale” is coming back for a fifth season in 2021.
