A whole bunch of trailers today worth a look for a variety of smaller and genre films.
Romola Garai’s “Amulet” follows a former soldier turned drifter Tomaz (Alec Secareanu) who finds himself on tough times. He quickly jumps at the opportunity to help a woman, Magda (Imelda Staunton), take care of her dying mother who never leaves her room on the top floor.
Soon, creepy things begin to happen. Carla Juri and Angeliki Papoulia co-star in the film which arrives in cinemas and on VOD on July 24th.
Andre Ovredal’s “Mortal” stars Nat Wolff as a Norwegian-American who finds himself struggling to suppress his burgeoning supernatural powers whilst also being wanted by authorities for the accidental killing of someone with said powers which tie to Norse lore. The film hits UK VOD on August 3rd.
“Boys Stare” was the Grand Jury Prize winner for documentary at this year’s Sundance Film Festival and now a trailer is out for the film which comes to Apple TV+ August 14th and select theaters July 31st.
The project follows a week-long annual program in which a thousand Texas high school seniors gather for an elaborate mock exercise: building their own state government. Jesse Moss and Amanda McBaine helm the project offering a complex portrait of contemporary American masculinity.
Actor James D’Arcy makes his directorial debut on “Made in Italy,” a new feature set in Tuscany. Liam Neeson plays bohemian London artist Robert who, following the death of his wife, works together with his estranged son (Neeson’s real life son Michael Richardson) to renovate their villa in Tuscany. At the same time they must also repair the holes in their relationship. “Made In Italy” will be released by IFC Films on August 7th.
Showtime has unveiled the trailer for the feature-length documentary “The Go-Go’s” about the famed all-female band of the same name. Premiering Saturday August 1st, the Sundance selection title chronicles the first all-female band to play its own instruments, write its own songs and soar to No. 1 on the album charts. Alison Ellwood helms the documentary charting their meteoric rise to fame.
Finally, Netflix has dropped the trailer for the sexy trashy thriller “Fatal Affair” which follows a ‘perfect couple’ (Stephen Bishop and Nia Long) whose lives are upended when her ex-flame (Omar Epps) reappears and the beginnings of an affair occur. Peter Sullivan helms the project which comes to the service on July 16th.
