Pugh, Ervio & More Make 2020 Oscar Invitee List

Florence Pugh, Cynthia Erivo, Ben Mendelsohn, Ana de Armas, Brian Tyree Henry, Udo Kier, Awkwafina, Tzi Ma, Lakeith Stanfield, Alexander Siddig, George MacKay, Mackenzie Davis, John David Washington and many of the cast of “Parasite” are among the 819 people to have made this year’s list of invitations to join The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences.

The number this year does not represent a record but is close to the 842 invited last year. The new invitees are 49% international, 45% women, and 36% underrepresented ethnic/racial with 68 countries represented on the list as the Academy continues its push to no longer be seen as just a “white man’s club”.

The overwhelming number of those invited to join the Academy end up accepting and should that again be the case, it will push active membership close to the 10,000 mark with voting members in the 9600+ range. AMPAS are reportedly especially focused on making gains in key decision-maker branches like Directors and Executives.

The list includes 75 past Oscar nominees, including 15 winners. Filmmakers like Lulu Wang, Matt Reeves, Terence Davies, Wash Westmoreland, Mati Diop and Ari Aster made the list, as has producer Ryan Murphy, composer Max Richter and writer Krysty Wilson-Cairns. Other actors in there include Zazie Beetz, Bobby Cannavale, Tyne Daly, Zendaya, Kaitlyn Dever, Beanie Feldstein, Olivia Wilde, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Huang Jue, Natasha Lyonne, Eva Longoria, Tim McGraw, Thomasin McKenzie, Niecy Nash, Teyonah Parris, James Saito, Constance Wu, Zhao Tao, and Wu Jing.
