HBO Max To Keep Departing DC Titles

HBO Max has changed its plans for DC Comics movie titles on its service following an outcry. Two weeks ago, WarnerMedia indicated it was set to pull over a dozen features based on DC Comics off HBO Max on July 1st – mere weeks after it launched.

Those titles being pulled included “Wonder Woman,” “Suicide Squad,” “Justice League,” “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” “Catwoman,” “Jonah Hex,” “The Losers,” “Steel,” “Teen Titans Go To The Movies,” “Wonder Woman: Animated Feature” and the four Burton & Schumacher “Batman” films.

In fact so much was being pulled that only a few titles currently on there would be left – “Aquaman,” “Shazam!,” “Supergirl,” “Joker,” “Green Lantern,” HBO’s “Watchmen” and “Doom Patrol”. A spokesperson said at the time “we have a collection of DC films that will rotate on the platform. We have a new batch coming in July and then another Joker batch coming in August.”

Now they’ve changed plans. Four of the titles – “Wonder Woman,” “Suicide Squad,” “Justice League,” and “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice” – will remain by popular demand through December. The rest, however will still be leaving on July 1st including the older “Batman” films.

Joining the service on July 1st will be the four Chris Reeve “Superman” films, the animated “Superman Unbound” and Zack Snyder’s “Watchmen”.

This is all paving the way for the “Snyder Cut” of “Justice League” which is set to drop early-mid 2021 on HBO Max according to WarnerMedia exec Sandra Dewey this week.
