Universal Wants More “Mamma Mia”

A producer has threatened that a third installment in the “Mamma Mia” film musical franchise could be on the way.

Judy Craymer, a producer on the original stage production along with the 2008 and 2018 film adaptations, tells The Daily Mail that even before the coronavirus pandemic plans were underway for a third film.

Both films were hits at the box office, the sequel “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again” grossing nearly $400 million worldwide off a relatively tame budget.

Craymer tells the outlet: “I was meant to have been getting on with that, in my head, during these months. But then I got hit with COVID fog. I think one day there will be another film, because there’s meant to be a trilogy, you see. I know Universal would like me to do it.”

A third “Mamma Mia” has not been officially announced as yet. The sequel is coming to Netflix in the U.K. starting June 26th.
