Insomniac Talks “Spider-Man: Miles Morales”

Following the reveal of the PlayStation 5 last week, Insomniac Games has posted a featurette on one of the most anticipated early titles – “Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales”.

A follow-up to the 2018 hit, Insomniac Games Creative Director Brian Horton confirms this is a “standalone game” that offers “a new story, with new set pieces, fresh villains and unique quests across Marvel’s New York City.”

The story will take place in a snowy wintertime, just before Christmas break, and about a year after the events of the first game. At this time there’s a war going on between an energy corporation and a high-tech criminal army and Miles’s new home in Harlem is at the heart of the battle.

They confirm that this won’t be a full sized game like the last one, instead they offer a direct comparison to “Uncharted: The Lost Legacy” in that it’s a shorter game with a smaller scope and likely smaller price but just as polished and crafted as the main games with a full story arc for Miles. The “Spider-Man 4” campaign clocked in at 15 hours if you mainlined it without any side missions, so this is likely to come in somewhere between 5-10 hours doing the same.

Miles has powers including bio-electricity and invisibility, he’s also not as skilled at swinging as Peter so expect a bit more flailing about in mid-air. The game will boast near-instant loading, ray-tracing, 3D audio, and upgraded character models “with 4D scans and improved skin shading for more realistic looking characters and spline-based hair that moves far more naturally”.

The developers confirm that Peter Parker is just fine and “we still have much of Peter’s story left to tell” which will no doubt come in a full second game. They also add “you won’t want to miss what happens”.

“Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales” is set to arrive sometime in Holiday 2020.
