It’s official – the 93rd Academy Awards ceremony has been pushed back from February 28th 2021 to April 25th 2021 by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
In addition, the Oscars eligibility period for feature films that began January 1st 2020 will extend its end deadline from December 31st 2020 to February 28th 2021.
Nominations will be announced on March 15th 2021, while submission deadline for general entry categories will be January 15th 2021 and for specialty categories will be December 1st 2020.
The Academy’s annual Governors Awards, a gala dinner, usually held in the second week of November, will not take place this fall. The Academy’s Scientific and Technical Awards presentation, which was scheduled for a June 20th 2020 ceremony, has been postponed to a later date still to be determined.
In a statement, the Academy indicated that the Oscars will still be held “at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood” and “will air live on ABC”. In addition, the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures will now open five days after the Oscars on April 30th.
