“Candyman” Day-and-Date VOD Teased?

Some recent Twitter activity from actor Tony Todd has suggested that Nia DaCosta’s upcoming “Candyman” revival film could be hitting both cinemas and VOD on September 25th.

The project was originally slated to open next weekend, but was then pushed back to that early Fall date due to global health concerns. Universal Pictures, who has been spearheading the Premium VOD push with thanks to “Trolls World Tour,” is releasing it and so there’s been understandable questions as to whether a non-tentpole film like “Candyman” will follow a similar path.

Now, during a conversation with a fan, Tony Todd echoed excitement for the Jordan Peele-produced film but then did something more. A fan said “I wish they’d day-and-date this, I want to see/support it, but there’s no way I’m sitting a theater any time this year” to which he replied “9-25-20 bamn”.

Subsequently, Todd retweeted a statement from the fan asking if he had just confirmed that the film would be hitting VOD on September 25th. For now, nothing seems off the table when it comes to the way films are released in the next few months – especially lower-mid budget films like this.

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Teyonah Parris, Colman Domingo, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, Vanessa Williams, Rebecca Spence and Todd himself co-star in the new “Candyman” which serves as a new sequel to the original 1992 feature.
